Gaian Tarot: Healing the Earth, Healing Ourselves (with Beth Owl’s Daughter)
October 23rd, 2010
Raleigh, North Carolina
To practice a Gaian or earth-centered spirituality means to both give and receive spiritual sustenance from Mama Gaia, the natural world. In this workshop, we will learn about the inspiration behind the Gaian Tarot and how it differs from other decks. We will learn spreads and practice readings for our own personal healing and transformation. And we’ll learn to do “wisdom readings” that will guide us into healing the earth.
Elemental Energies in the Tarot
Women of Wisdom Community Day
June 12, 2010
Each suit of the Tarot corresponds to one of the four elements: air, fire, water, and earth. Each elements represents a different way of connecting to Spirit or honoring the Great Mystery. We’ll play with Tarot cards in this workshop to discover facets of our personalities as they relate to elemental energy. And we’ll use the cards to discover ways to honor the elements, both symbolically and physically, in our daily lives as well.

Tarot and the Mysteries of Life, Death & Rebirth
February 26-28, 2010
The Tarot has been called a “book of wisdom,” and like other sacred texts it explores the themes of life, death and rebirth. We will examine these in specific cards such as the Moon, Death and Awakening (Judgement) in Joanna’s Gaian deck as well as traditional Tarot decks.
And even more workshops:

Keeping a Nature Journal
(Note to organizer: this class should take place in a natural area; even a city park will do!)
Deepen your relationship with Mama Gaia by learning the techniques of keeping a Nature Journal. The journal provides us with a way to slow down, to connect with the Place where we live, and to make a space in our lives for healing and meditation. We will go on an “observation walk” and look for signs of the season. We will practice observation techniques, then respond to what we see, hear, feel and sense through drawing and writing exercises. No previous art experience necessary! We’ll also create gratitude cairns and altars. The practice of keeping a Nature Journal led Joanna to create the Gaian Tarot.
MoonDancing: Living in Synch with the Rhythms of the Moon
La Luna Bella! A Goddess to many, and a Tarot card to be feared by others. What does She mean to you? Each “moonth” the moon embodies the cycle of descent and return, as She waxes to fullness, wanes to darkness and begins to wax again. The Moon is constantly changing, and is utterly faithful in Her changes.
In this class, you’ll raise your lunar consciousness. You’ll learn to track the movement of the moon in the night sky where you live, and to recognize Her phases. We’ll run your astrological chart and discover what your natal moon phase is, and what that might say about your personality. We’ll look at the sign and house of your natal moon, and talk about the energy that changes every few days as the Moon changes signs and phases. We’ll learn a bit about lunar folklore and holidays, and your own personal lunar power time. We’ll learn to track the New Moon in our birth charts, and use that information to set an intention for the month. We’ll learn one or two New Moon spreads for reading Tarot cards at the New Moon. We’ll end the workshop with a lunar ritual of celebration (of course!) Please provide your birth data (date, place, time) when you register.
Creating Tarot, Goddess or Mythic Icons in Mixed Media Collage
(Note to organizer: this class should take place in a classroom with tables, large enough for each participant to have space to create art. We’ll be getting messy too so it should not be held in a pristine environment. We’ll need access to water for cleaning up. Some materials will be provided and participants will be given a supply list of items to bring to class. There will be a small materials fee in addition to the price of the class.)
Let your imagination run wild and your hands get messy! You’ll choose a Tarot card (or two) that is calling you at this time in your life. It might be one that you most identify with, one of your Birth cards, or a card that keeps turning up in your readings. In this class you’ll transform the card into a three dimensional icon to hang on your wall or place on your altar. We’ll use collage, assemblage, painting, rubber stamping and just plain old messing around to create something beautiful and inspiring. No previous art experience necessary!
Sacred Play with Tarot Cards
Learn to read Tarot cards without consulting the book. We’ll read the cards intuitively, using techniques like visualization, storytelling, journal writing and Tarot theatre. You’ll learn to trust your own personal associations with the cards. We’ll have fun building community by playing games with the cards, and will practice simple readings. A light-hearted, easy, non-threatening introduction to Tarot cards. Bring any Tarot deck(s) with you.
Soulful Tarot: A Divine Conversation
The Tarot has been called a “book of wisdom” or a sacred text, and reading the cards is a way to have a conversation with the Divine. In this workshop we learn to use the cards as a means of spiritual guidance. We will also work with spreads and exercises that illuminate our spiritual quest, path or calling in this lifetime. Please provide your birth data (date, place, time) when you register. Bring any Tarot deck(s) with you.
Develop Your Tarot Reading Skills
Practice your Tarot reading skills! We will learn and practice a variety of reading techniques, both intellectual and intuitive. Techniques include: personal associations, comparative, entering a card in meditation, examining systems of number and suit symbolism, and more. This class includes journaling, guided meditations, dialoguing with others, group and personal readings. Bring any Tarot deck(s) with you.
